Writing for websites is not the same way as writing for essays, news papers, novel etc. You will need to make sure that your article is well received, understood and comprehended by the users of your website. And the best way to do that is to consider the 6 points below:
Use Familiar Words:
You want to make sure that the words that you use is well understood by the users with all levels of knowledge. If you going to use any word that is not commonly used say an industry specific word or technical word or something that has to be said, do not hesitate to provide definition for that word or service.
Keep it Short & to the Point:
There could be lot of information to be conveyed to the users but it is to be understood that lot of wording could be overwhelming. Nowadays users just want to grab the most information that they need within a very short span of time. The psychology of internet users is that they do not want to sit down for hours reading through each and every words in your web page. It is good on a website to be descriptive but it is best to be concise description or we have to formulate it as a list or reference them to other documents to refer more or you can create other pages when they might be interested in a particular topic to get more in depth information.
Keywords:
This is bit different approach to the process of writing. Usually we write based upon what the user should get to read and know from our articles. But with keywords, you need to write based upon the words that the user will be searching for in the search engines to get to know about that information. What a lot of individuals use for finding information, services, products and businesses are search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing. So with that in mind, you want to use wording in your website that these search engines will index to find your business. An example for such a search query is “sea food restaurant”. If you have used only the keyword “restaurant” in your website, it would be hard to find your website. You will need to use specific keywords like “houston sea food restaurant” so your customers in Houston can easily get to find your business as Google would be listing your website on top as this search query matches with the keywords and content in your website. So its best to keep in mind about what users will be searching for in search engines to reach your website and draft your content based on the keywords of those search queries.
Using lists and steps:
It is always best to see a systematic approach of step by step instructions to doing something or showing a list of items or list of services. This is always great so an individual can get everything together yet they know there are more in detail. This is extremenly important and this would be very useful for your audience.
Know your Audience:
Taking mindful notes of who you are trying to gain interest from. Let say you sell gadgets, users who are willing to buy gadgets would like to see the specifications in detail, the pros and cons, reviews, photos, etc These are something that you would need to take in mind to come up with the words that you use in your articles. Definitely know your audience and know your markets.
Build Trust:
Always put in factual information. No jargon and spamming. Do not display reports that are outdated. Research well before you write and that would make your article trustworthy. Make sure your information Is up to date and if you have to put up a source or reference, don’t hesitate to put that in your article.
